Pinky Ring Middle Index Thumb

The coloured line under each key shows the finger for it. Each hand uses the same colours.

Hand position

  • Rest each finger on the gap between two rows. Left hand: pinky between q/a, ring w/s, middle e/d, index r/f. Right hand: index u/j, middle i/k, ring o/l, and pinky between p and ;
  • Press the top key, the bottom key, or both at once by pressing on the gap. That is how one finger plays two steno keys, like T and K together.
  • Thumbs rest on c v (left) and n m (right). Each thumb can press both of its keys at once.
  • Each index finger reaches one column toward the middle for the star (t g or y h). The right pinky also covers [ and '.
  • Keep your hands still and press straight down. Only the index fingers (for the star) and the right pinky (for [ and ') reach sideways.

Chord mode reads your keys directly, so turn Plover off first. You see exactly which keys you held on both keyboards, and the chord is checked when you let go of every key.

Plover mode is the real thing. Turn Plover on, click the box, and stroke the word. Plover types it, and the page checks the word it typed.

S can be pressed with a or q. The star (*) can be any of t g y h. Strokes come from Plover's own dictionary.
